Secessionist Party Wins First Seat

Douglas Carswell, a former Conservative MP who resigned his seat in August to join the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) has won yesterday’s by-election in Clacton to become UKIP’s first Member of Parliament.

UKIP made headlines earlier this year by winning elections for the European Parliament.

UKIP was originally a single issue party focussing on Independence/Secession from the EU, it has since broadened it’s policies and developed into a full scale Political Party. There is a strong paleo-conservative and libertarian element that has shaped its growth.

Interesting times ahead.
